Today, Warren Buffett is known as one of the greatest investors of all time. He has built a $100 billion-plus fortune over the past 90 years and turned Berkshire Hathaway from a struggling textile concern on the road to bankruptcy into one of the world’s largest corporations. From modest beginnings today, the firm has nearly $1 trillion in assets, and it owns everything from wind farms to furniture stores.

But Buffett has to start somewhere. Unlike many wealthy individuals, the investor did not inherit a lot of money or move into a leading position at a family company. While he did receive some help along the way, he is a self-made man for the most part.
