The Agnelli family is one of Europe’s wealthiest industrial families, and its interests today are managed by John Elkann, an astute capital allocator whose stewardship of the family-holding company Exor has transformed the family's fortunes.

Since 2009 the stock has returned more than 600%, more than the return of the MSCI World Index over the same period.

Elkann had to step up in 2004 when the family faced a succession crisis, driven mainly by an emergency at automaker Fiat.

Stepping Up to Take Control

The Agnelli family's wealth dates back to 1899 when Giovanni Agnelli helped set up Fabbrica Italiana di Automobili Torino, or Fiat.
