Structured-Product Issuance Slowdown Worse Than Expected: ABAlert

During the January to March period, worldwide structured-product issuance posted a 35% drop from the year-earlier count of $177.7 billion, making the issuance even lighter than anticipated. Asset Backed Alert points out in its April 1 report that the worldwide securitization volume was dragged down by a weak CLO market.

Tracking worldwide securitization volume, the ABAlert’s report points out that a disappointing $115 billion of asset-based securities, collateralized loan obligations, residential mortgage bonds and commercial mortgage securities were priced during the January to March period. As can be deduced from the following table, the decline marked a 35% drop from the year-earlier count of $177.7 billion:
