Leveraged ETFs crackdown? According to the Wall Street Journal, the Securities and Exchange Commission is pushing ahead with a rule proposed last year that will limit the access of so-called leveraged exchange-traded funds to ordinary investors.

Under the rule put forward by the SEC late last year leveraged ETF’s could lose the advantages that stem from being regulated like mutual funds, including access to a broader group of investors. Leveraged ETF’s were made available to the wider public a decade ago, during what the Journal calls a “deregulatory heyday.”
