A Russian spy ring attempting to pry into the behind the scenes activities in the U.S. business world has been disrupted, Federal Prosecutors in New York announced today.
Criminal charges have been filed against three alleged spies, one of them who posed as a banker. New York resident Evgeny Buryakov is charged with working with agents of Russia’s foreign intelligence service, the SVR, as a “non-official cover” agent. “Specifically, Buryakov is posing as an employee in the Manhattan office of a Russian bank,” the unsealed complaint revealed.
