2017 was a record year for the Indian stock market. As the S&P 500 rallied by just over 22% during the period, the Sensex and MSCI indices posted returns of 30.04% and 32.69% respectively over the year as investors pushed both the indices to record closing highs.

Many different factors helped Indian investors throughout the year, including the pace of economic reform across the country and broader investor optimism around the world. It is estimated that international investors put around $8 billion to work in Indian equities throughout the year, accelerating buying by domestic investors.
