In a surprise development, Google released its new Android N Developer Preview today months before the I/O developer conference scheduled for May 18-20 in Mountain View, CA.

Google wants to get jump on Android N development process

With 1.4 billion users around the world, 400 original equipment manufacturers, 500 cell phone carriers and millions of developers, the release of a new cell phone operating system is watched with much anticipation. Traditionally such an event takes place at a developer conference but this year Hiroshi Lockheimer, Google’s SVP for Android, Chrome OS and Chromecast, wanted to shake things up.
