Facebook catapulted Mark Zuckerberg to billionaire status – and some say rocker Bono, too.
The Mirror reported over the weekend that U2 front man Bono has become the world’s richest pop star after bringing in nearly £1 billion (about $1.5 billion) from his Facebook shares.
In 2009 and 2010, private equity firm Elevation Partners, of which Bono is a partner, amassed a significant stake in the social media giant. It bought $90 million worth of Facebook shares in late 2009 on the secondary market and bought an additional $120 million in stock from private shareholders in 2010.
