Hossam Bahgat, an Egyptian journalist and human rights advocate jailed amid acquisitions of spreading “false news,” was released after being held overnight by authorities as an international spotlight was shined on the issue.

Bahgat’s alleged crime under investigation was writing a recent article describing criminal convictions against 26 military officers for plotting a coup.
