Banks Defending Against Activists See Growth Market

U.S. activist investing is increasing at a historic pace, with the flow of money now getting so large that evidence suggests that even the once untouchable Goliath corporations are now targets.  Such activity has significantly benefited a little discussed business segment: the activist defense industry.

There have been more activist campaigns against corporations in the S&P 500 in 2014 than at any other full year, a Factset report notes, with 29 total campaigns eclipsing the total year activity in 2006, when the company first started tracking such behavior.
