Prentice Capital was up 15.3% net last month, bringing its year-to-date gain to 49.4% net. Prentice touted its ability to preserve capital during market downturns like the first quarter of this year and the fourth quarter of 2018.

Background of Prentice Capital

The fund utilizes a low net long/ short equity strategy with a focus on the U.S. consumer sector. Prentice Capital was founded by Michael Zimmerman, who was previously with SAC Capital and Omega Advisors. The fund looks for idiosyncratic longs and shorts and usually holds a gross exposure between 100% and 150% and a net exposure between -10% and 30%.
