Ascend Capital – Asset Managers Good Shorts, But Too Dangerous

Ascend Capital reported a net return of -0.1% for its Ascend Partners Fund I LP for the fourth quarter compared to a return of 3.8% the S&P 500 and 1.27% for the HFRI hedge fund index.

These returns were not enough to pull the fund into positive territory for the year having produced a net return of -4.85% during the first quarter, 0% during Q2 and 1.1% for Q3. However, since inception, the fund is comfortably beating its benchmarks with a return of 301.64% since January 1, 2000.
