Graham’s most famous activist situation was against the management of the Northern Pipeline Company in 1927. The value investor wanted the business to distribute its excess cash to shareholders. Initially, management and other shareholders, including the Rockefeller family, pushed back, but he ran a proxy fight to put himself on the board of directors....
