Every year, there's a constant push and pull between value and growth stocks. This year, value has significantly outperformed growth, as demonstrated by the Russell 1000 Value Index's 11% year-to-date decline through mid-December, versus the Russell 1000 Growth Index's 29% plunge.

Taming The Big, Bad Bear

The bear market that has prevailed for much of this year has taken massive bites out of virtually every corner of the market, making it nearly impossible to pick winners, no matter where you're looking. However, one manager who describes himself as an "invest tech" is using artificial intelligence to apply quantitative techniques to value investing, and it appears to have worked during this highly volatile, extended bear market.
