Peter Thiel’s Foundation Directed Its $45 Million Portfolio Into Many Companies Focused Innovation

Peter Thiel is one of the names that became a household name, mostly through his entrepreneurial skills and political and social views. In the past, he was closely connected with projects like PayPal, Clarium Capital, and Facebook. Currently, his Chairman position in Palantir Technologies is drawing the most attention.

Besides investing and overseeing innovative operations, Thiel is also the Chairman of the Thiel Foundation. Its goals include supporting science and tech-oriented ideas that can have a long-term impact on a larger scale.

For the fiscal year 2024, the foundation reported $450 thousand of revenue with net assets of $43.94 million. For the same year's expenses were $3.92 million, with a $3.46 million of negative earnings.

Analyzing revenues, the foundation earned $211 from dividends and interests from securities, and $243 thousand from capital gains. This year, Peter Thiel did not make any donations to the foundation, which is a shift from recent years. In 2022, he donated $5.2 million, while a report for 2023 shows a $4 million contribution.

Foundation Investments

When comparing 2023 and 2024, there is an increase in capital allocated for investments. In 2023 initial investment value was $28.59 million, which rose to end of year book value of $44.44 million. A year later, the foundation kept all the capital, again rising at the end of 2024 to $45.24 million. The core of the portfolio is in the innovative healthcare and biotech companies.
