David Abrams’ 17 Favorite Hedge Funds Are in Tune with His Value Investing Roots

Many hedge fund managers are widely known to be very philanthropic, with some donating through their own foundations. The easiest way to see which funds managers like David Abrams of Abrams Capital trust the most is by looking at where they invest their foundation’s money.

The Abrams Foundation aims to “nurture creative, deeply informed communities while promoting equity and fairness.” In line with that, the foundation gave $2.5 million to the American Journalism Project in 2024. Other grants went to the Committee to Protect Journalists, the Equal Justice Initiative, ProPublica, The Reporters’ Committee for Freedom of the Press, and The 19th News.

According to the 990-PF for fiscal 2024, which was filed in November 2025, the Abrams Foundation had about $146 million in assets at the end of the year.

Capital gains and losses

The foundation reported some capital gains and losses in fiscal 2024, including some through Gardner, Russo & Gardner.
