Many hedge fund managers are widely known to be very philanthropic, with some donating through their own foundations. The easiest way to see which funds managers like David Abrams of Abrams Capital trust the most is by looking at where they invest their foundation’s money.
The Abrams Foundation aims to “nurture creative, deeply informed communities while promoting equity and fairness.” In line with that, the foundation gave $2.5 million to the American Journalism Project in 2024. Other grants went to the Committee to Protect Journalists, the Equal Justice Initiative, ProPublica, The Reporters’ Committee for Freedom of the Press, and The 19th News.
