Stablecoins appeared on the crypto asset scene in 2014 with Tether, and at first, many people didn't understand what they were for. After all, enthusiasts who held other cryptocurrencies had the potential to enjoy sizable gains, but stablecoins are pegged to a fiat currency or other asset, meaning their prices don't change much.
In a panel at the Crypto and Digital Assets Summit hosted by the Financial Times, Dante Disparte of Circle, Richard Crook of BCB Group, Scott Bauguess of Coinbase, and Tim Rice of Coin Metrics joined FT correspondent Eva Szalay to talk about stablecoins.
