Dale Zhang, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Entrust Evergreen Partners (EEP), provided an overview of his firm’s strategy during the "Investing in Asia: Finding Value and Moats" panel at The Ben Graham Centre's 5th European Value Investing Conference. EEP is a long-only, public equities fund focused on Pan-Asia. Zhang’s core thesis centers on exploiting a structural inefficiency in Asian public markets: the vast majority of public institutions are short-term momentum-driven, creating a large gap for EEP to operate with a long-only, "private equity approach to public markets". EEP’s strategy emphasizes deep fundamental, bottoms-up research, high concentration (roughly 10 positions), long duration (three to five-plus years), and low turnover, aiming to uncover high-quality businesses that can benefit from long-term compounding of cash flow. Since launching EEP in early 2024, the firm has generated cumulative net returns of 60%. Prior that, Zhang spent a dozen years in a variety of roles in hedge funds and private equity.
