In the universe of mid-sized value orientated hedge funds, Allan Mecham of Arlington Value has to be one of the top ten performers of all time.

Over the seven-and-a-half years to the end of 2015, the fund achieved a gross annualised return of 30.9% versus 8.7% for the S&P 500. 2015 was the first year in a decade the fund registered a loss ending the year down 6.7% of vs. a gain of 1.4% for the S&P 500. Still, this one black mark on Arlington’s record shouldn’t worry investors. Arlington’s 16-year annualised return is 20.1% versus 4.1% for the S&P 500.
