High-Yield Concerns Are Overblown Goldman
Despite elevated concerns about the fundamentals of the US credit markets, the US credit cycle is not about to roll over; that’s according to Goldman Sachs’ analyst Lotfi Karoui, who explores the three key themes currently driving US credit markets in the bank’s May 3 Global Markets Daily research report.
Since mid-February high-yield bonds have been one of the best-performing instruments out there. Year-to-date high yield bonds are up around 7.5% compared to about 1.0% for the S&P 500. However, this notable improvement in risk sentiment appears to be masking remaining underlying fundamental concerns about the state of many borrowers.
