Like many well-known hedge fund managers, Bill Ackman is involved with charity work through the work and grant-making activities of his own foundation, the Pershing Square Foundation.

A few years ago, activist investor Ackman was well-known for making waves in the stock market. However, amid the increasing regulatory scrutiny of short-sellers, the Pershing Square Capital chief announced last year that he was done with activist short-selling, or the "noisiest" shareholder activism. Nonetheless, he's still quite an active investor, including through his foundation.
