In 1998 he founded Highfields Capital Management, a Boston-based alternative investment firm. At its core, it was a value-oriented firm that had a highly diverse approach to investing.
In 2018 Jacobson announced that Highfields Capital Management would wind down its operations before shutting down entirely in 2021. From there on, Jacobson, with his wife Joanna, focused on managing their One8 Foundation.
