Current U.S. Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation James Comey, when he was assistant U.S. Attorney General, had written a letter of resignation to then-President George Bush over the U.S. government’s illegal spying program on its citizens.  He humbly marched into the White House with then FBI Director Robert Mueller and both said they would resign if the program was not adjusted to make it legal, he revealed on a 60 Minutes report.
