Coatue Management operated by Philippe Laffont is known for its preference for tech-oriented business. They were the pioneers of investing in AI when it was still not popular, and the firm is looking to switch the focus of their tech elements of the portfolio to its AI subsector.
This can be seen from the recent webinar that Laffont held with his investors in April. In it, he emphasized how the firm was moving away from other sectors in the tech business and refocusing on AI. Just two years ago only 31% of their tech portfolio was AI-oriented, while today that figure is 82%, according to slides from the call reviewed by HedgeFund Alpha.
Four Phases Of AI Implementation
Laffont identified four phases in the implementation of AI, and each has its companies worthy of investing.
The first phase which is now in everybody’s sights is the AI Core Infrastructure Sector. Coatue Management already invested in dozens of companies that are involved in these operations including giants like Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), AMD (NASDAQ:AMD), EATON (NYSE:ETN), and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN).
