The Bureau of Labor Statistics released their monthly estimate of job growth by state and select metropolitan statistical areas on Friday.

First, a Brief Look at the Total Job Creation Picture by State

Here's a look at the total job picture by state.

It's relatively easy to see the recessions, recoveries, booms, and busts.

As has been the case since the early 1970s, the top area for employment is California.  Interestingly, before this it was New York.  Since the early 1970s, when the two were tied, net job creation in California has expanded by over 9 million jobs.  In New York, around 2 million.
