Navistar International is required to produce sensitive documentation regarding its political lobbying activity as the result of an August 31 ruling by United States Magistrate Judge Sidney I. Schenkier. The Securities and Exchange Commission had been investigating the heavy equipment manufacturer on fraud grounds, claiming that the firm violated federal securities laws by making false or misleading statements when they sought approval from the Environmental Protection Agency for a new truck.

The details of the communication could be released in court and could providing interesting insight into how political lobbying influences regulatory agencies. It may also provide revealing insight into how corporations view the U.S. political apparatus.
