When It Comes To Retirement Savings, The American Middle Class Isn't Doing So Hot

Middle-class America is nowhere near ready to retire – at least financially. In fact, one-third of Americans are not contributing to any retirement vehicle at all.

Retirement Savings,A Wells Fargo study on 2014 middle-class retirement trends found that most Americans are struggling to get their ducks in a row, economically, for later life. Sixty-eight percent of those surveyed say they find saving for retirement harder than anticipated, and the median amount earmarked is just $20,000.

Procrastination and Priorities

Most middle-class Americans cite having other financial priorities as a primary reason for failing to contribute regularly to retirement. What they’re paying for instead varies by age.
