Sterne Agee sees two years left in a five year bull market in the U.S. dollar as the economy benefits from cyclical expansion and growth. This economic growth will take place in spite of significant global headwinds, particularly from Europe.
Lindsey M. Piegza, Sterne Agee chief economist who wrote the report “Rise of the Dollar,” notes that just as stocks are priced based on the demand and supply for shares, exchange rates are based on the same economic fundamentals where demand is fueled by confidence. Going forward, if economic reports outperform expectations, suggesting further growth in the future, the perception of the value of the underlying currency could be expected to rise.
