Coke CEO Muhtar Kent might feel just a little bit like dethroned baseball hero Mark McGwire.

As reports say the company could shed 1,000 to 2,000 jobs amid sagging financial results, and following the heels of a bruising executive compensation battle, Kent likely looks longingly for when he first started at Coke. Like Mark McGwire’s playing career in his prime, Kent was greeted to nothing but early cheers as he engaged in a battle to set a new home run record at Coke.
