U.S. Courts Could Join Holdouts In Argentina Repossession Game

The U.S. legal system could be in a similar situation to hedge fund holdouts who have tracked the government of Argentina down across the world in an attempt to collect monies owed them from their investment in government bonds.

Argentina claims contempt of court sanction is illegal under international law

Argentina on Monday said that a contempt of court sanction leveled against it, requiring the country to pay $50,000 per day, are illegal under international law, according to a Reuters report. Thus, even if the U.S. court does levy the sanctions, Argentina may ignore the ruling, leaving the U.S. to figure out how to collect.
