David Einhorn, President of Greenlight Capital, presented five US investment ideas at the 2026 Sohn New York Conference on May 12, pitching what he called “transition stories”, businesses that suffered for identifiable reasons and now stand poised for revaluation as those pressures fade. The through-line across all five: deeply discounted stocks in industries undergoing structural change, each with a credible path to materially higher earnings and share prices. Einhorn opened by noting that while US markets appear expensive, his firm is finding interesting opportunities where management is repositioning businesses toward more durable, more disciplined, and more cash-generative growth. “The value creation question is whether or not the management can convert the strategic change into better visibility, better margins, and eventually a better multiple,” he said.
