The experience of running a business can make you a better investor, according to Warren Buffett, a view Joseph Boskovich, Sr., the founder of Old West Investment Management, also holds.
Boskovich, Sr. himself has plenty of first-hand business experience. He helped build his family farming business from a 500-acre farm in Southern California to a 15,000-acre giant across the US and Mexico before leaving to start Old West in 2008.
Since then, Old West’s focus on small caps has yielded strong returns for the firm’s investors. Its focused small-cap portfolio has returned 12.7% net annually versus 10.7% for the Russell 2000.
