This return compared to a 12.1% gain in the S&P 500 and a 31.4% gain in the Russell 2000. During the fourth quarter, the $4.4 billion fund was on average 134% long and 75% short. On a gross basis, long positions added 31.3% to the quarterly return and short positions subtracted 13.4%.
