Corsair Capital struck by steep decline in small caps

Corsair Capital was down 21% net for the first quarter, while Corsair Select was down 31.2% net. The HFRI EHI was down 13% for the first quarter, while the S&P 500 was down 19.3%, and the Russell 2000 was down 30.6%.

In their first-quarter letter to investors, which was reviewed by ValueWalk, Corsair management noted that between Feb. 19 and Mar. 12, the market saw the fastest bear market ever. Smaller companies took an even bigger hit as the Russell 2000 saw its largest quarterly decline in its more than 40-year history.
