BoA: M&A volumes are rising as investors reward mergers

There has been a shift in sentiment towards a re-leveraging amongst corporates according to Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s “Situation Room” credit report. According to the report, which draws on data from across the credit space and M&A market, after declining for three months the volume of announced North American M&A transactions increased to $192 billion in September.

It would appear that after being frozen over for several months, the North American M&A market is finally starting to thaw out. September’s M&A deal total is up a third from August’s total of $145 billion, although it is below the recent monthly high of $208 billion hit in May 2016.
