Barclays Cautions Investors About OIL ETN….. After Crash

OIL ETN….. Barclays asked investors to exercise “extreme caution” before buying or selling its oil-tracking Exchange-Traded Notes following extreme fluctuations in the iPath S&P GSCI Crude Oil Total Return Index, ETN. The cautious note from Barclays comes amidst a situation in which oil prices are rebounding, while the popular oil-tracking exchange-traded note dropped 17% on Thursday.

In its guidance notice to investors on Jan. 20, Barclays, the issuer of the iPath ETN, highlighted the material premium that had developed in the market price of the ETNs on NYSE Arca in relation to their intraday indicative value and daily redemption value.
