Growth stocks, especially the Magnificent Seven, have been a hot topic for years on Wall Street. However, there are many topics that are related to the topic of growth stocks, feeding directly into the conversation about them.

At the 2024 Invest for Kids conference, Mala Gaonkar of SurgoCap Partners and Dan Sundheim of D1 Capital Partners joined moderator Jason Perlioni for a discussion of topics related to growth stocks.

Perlioni kicked off the discussion with a question about the most important lesson learned as they built their own firms.

On building their own firms

Gaonkar said building a new firm has come on the lessons of 20+ years of investing at her prior firm.

The first lesson she mentioned was around bias. Gaonkar said all of her biggest mistakes have been from biases, primarily confirmation biases. She noted that everyone is human and thus subject to such biases, no matter how intelligent they might be.
