Nelson Peltz of Trian Partners discussed a wide range of topics with CNBC's Sara Eisen, but some of the most interesting commentary came in the form of behind-the-scenes stories from some of his biggest battles.

First, Peltz said he was proud of what Unilever, one of their biggest holdings, has done. This company that was "in a coma for about 10 or 20 years" has brought in a new chairman, CEO, chief financial officer, and a board of about six or seven members, down from the large number before.

In the last quarter, Unilever's sales and profit growth and margins we all better, and the company spent more on advertising.
